Situated on the edge of the beautiful Cotswold hills and nestled on the outskirts of the 'picture postcard' village of Stinchcombe, the grade 2 listed manor house offers all the peace and tranquility of a country residence yet is within easy touching distance of the ancient market town of Dursley with its bustling shops, cafes and modern amenities.
The Cedars is a dedicated specialist unit which caters for older adults (45 to 70) living with diagnosed mental health and other complex issues that may affect their cognition, i.e. Korsakoffs. We also support clients who have varying types of physical disability.
The Laurels also caters for older adults through to 'end of life' who may have similar diagnoses such as mental health but may have mild to severe learning disabilities and / or be living with dementia. Clients at The Laurels are also likely to be more frail thus requiring greater support.
The manor house is surrounded by three and a half acres of established park land giving ample space for those who love walking and ambling in the countryside. Our enclosed patio area has raised beds for planting and comfortable seating for those who wish to rest and relax on warm sunny days. We are only a very short walk way from the local church and we have easy access to the public footpaths which wind their way through the beautiful Cotswold landscape.
Meal times are vital for healthy social interaction and building friendships. Here at SM Care, our aim is that everyone should receive nutritionally balanced, tasty meals and really enjoy their food. Our kitchen provides a great variety of delicious and well presented home cooked meals, using fresh ingredients which are locally sourced whenever possible. The menu is not only created with input from the clients, but also in the preparation, after all it is their home.
The long list of activities enjoyed by our clients includes themed evenings, arts & crafts sessions, games & quizzes, making seasonal decorations, movement to music, picnics, barbecues, ‘pets as therapy’ visits, reminiscence sessions, ball games, skittles, card making, baking, charity events, hand massage, cooking & tasting sessions. The recent introduction of our new sensory room is proving extremely popular with our clients
The manor house still benefits from original decor dating as far back as the 1850's. The stately bluebell lounge (formally a period reception room) makes it the ideal place for social events and gatherings. There are other communal areas dotted around the home as well as, the grand hallway entrance, the hairdressing salon, conservatory and the highly popular meeting area known as "The Gatehouse" where clients regularly meet (with staff as well as other clients) and chat over a cup of tea and a snack.
The home has its own dedicated mobility transport vehicle which facilitates days out to access the surrounding community. Trips to the beach, country parks, garden centres and shopping malls are some of the top choices from our clients. Being situated in the heart of the Cotswolds means we have a huge variety of places to visit which are literally on our doorstep and after a busy schedule we usually finish the day sitting down with fish & chips, ice cream & a cappuccino.
Electronic care & medication management software efficiently records key information at the point of delivery. These innovations allow our care team to spend more quality time with our residents, and create alerts which allow information to be shared with loved ones. Every room has its’ own individual 24 hour care call system, complete with pressure sensitive bed side mats linked to a universal alarm which continually monitors any movement out of bed, day or night.
